Label business happily returned to family fold

KEEPING it in the family is the motto for Brendale business Mac’s Labels after its return to the family fold.

Dave McCristal bought the label manufacturing business nearly a decade after his father Brian sold it to an investor after he retired in 2003.

‘‘I was still working in Mac’s Labels and I just saw that there was more potential in the business and because it was a family business that was sad to see,’’ he said.

‘‘I’d been waiting for the opportunity to buy it back so when the owner decided it was time I was more than happy to take it on.”

Dave’s father Brian started the business in 1988 from the garage of their family home with one small machine.

Business soon took off eventually outgrowing the garage and moving to its current Brendale premises.

Dave says his dad is happy the business is back under NEXT GENERATION: Dave McCristal with his partner, Gelia Sio and son Xian McCristal. the McCristal name. ‘‘We’re so happy to own Mac’s Labels and look forward to taking it from strength to strength in the future,” he said.

The business and the family is expanding with Dave and partner Gelia welcoming their son, Xian, six months ago.

‘‘Maybe one day we can pass the business down to him,’’ said Dave.
